frequently asked questions

How long is a therapy session?

Individual sessions range from 45 to 60 minutes depending on your needs.

How often will we meet?

Most clients choose to have one session a week, however the recommended frequency will depend on your needs at the time.

What are your office hours?

Office hours vary based on each therapist. Please list your preferences on the connect form if you have limited available time.

Our standard practice is to schedule clients at the same time every (or every other) week. This helps to create consistency and allows you to plan around your therapy sessions. Many practices don't offer this as an option, however we recognize that it's helpful to working clients, stay-at-home parents, and anyone in between to be able to count on a regular appointment time.

What can I expect at the first session?

We will ask you to complete some electronic forms prior to your first session. This enables us to spend your first appointment discussing your personal background, the areas of concern that led to seeking help, along with specific questions to aid in identifying your goals for therapy.

How much do you charge?

Colleen’s rate is $165 per hour for individual therapy sessions and individual supervision for LPCA counselors. Her fees for consultations, trainings, retreats and speaking are based on the needs of the organization. Please contact us for podcast inquiries & EMDR Retreats.

Colleen’s rate for counseling interns under her supervision and training is $60 per hour for individual therapy sessions.

Do you accept insurance?

We place a high priority on ensuring clients receive the best possible treatment and are respected through the entire therapy experience. Unfortunately, insurance companies often require the release of your medical records, limit the care you need, and require diagnosis of a mental illness/disorder in the first session - even if you do not have one! For these reasons, we do not contract directly with insurance companies.

We do, however, accept payment through HSA and FSA cards. We also provide an automated “superbill” each month that you may submit to your insurance company if your policy reimburses you for out-of-network providers.

Do you have a sliding scale?

It’s important to us that each client feel they are treated equally. Currently, we do not offer a sliding scale because of the ethical concerns involved with deciding what each person pays.

What does LPC mean?

This level of credentialing means Colleen is a Licensed Professional Counselor. In the state of Kentucky, it means she has obtained a master’s degree in counseling, completed an internship, earned a satisfactory score on the National Counselor Exam, and undergone two years of supervision. Earning licensure at this level means Colleen’s area of expertise is in counseling and psychotherapy.

What is EMDR?

Significant scientific evidence shows that the mind attempts to heal itself, much like our physical bodies do when injured. This working process often occurs during our deepest sleep stages. Francine Shapiro created Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) in 1987. Since this breakthrough in therapeutic treatment, EMDR has been used to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. EMDR also is used to effectively treat issues like anxiety, panic attacks, depression, anger, grief/loss, performance anxiety, and family of origin issues. Click here for more information about EMDR.
